Going down the Wisconsin R. we saw many fine sights. Several herons flapped ponderously ahead of us at different times - much like a heavily loaded transport ship just getting under way. A small flock of ducks kept just ahead of us for several miles. Just a few miles below Eagle River we saw a deer swimming across the river in front of us. We tried to catch up to him before he could gain the shore, but we failed and he disappeared quickly in the underbrush. We stayed our last night on St. Germain Lake. It was a very poor camp site and there was only room for one tent. So we told our "pals" that they could sleep under the flap of our tent. Boy, did they take a beating. The
