5 down on your back "to boot"is no fun. There are two aspects to this outdoor life. When I am paddling on a beautiful lake or swift running wooded stream enjoying the wonderful things of Nature I envy the early explorers and Indians; I mentally transport myself back to their day and glory in the fun & exhiliration (sp) of it all. But when I am double portaging over a mile or two of poor footing in the hot sun, or cooking over a hot fire in the sun in a mosquito infested region I feel very happy that I was not an Indian or an early pioneer.
