2 had their own canoe and packs and assured us they could "carry". We were soon to find, much to our dismay, that they had far overestimated their transporting ability. The first afternoon we went as far as Ballard Lake and camped for the night. It was on our portage from Plum to Star that we found the "other" fellows couldn't "carry" - I carried their canoe the last half of the portage & thereafter we took turns going back and helping the tenderfeet.
