Student Activities Bulletin University of Iowa Office of Student Affairs Vol. II, No. 2 October 27, 1967 REORGANIZATION IN THE OFFICE OF STUDENT AFFAIRS A substantial reorganization has occurred in the Office of Student Affairs this fall. In order to provide more help for the ever-increasing student body, major areas of responsibility are now divided among four associate deans. Each associate dean will work directly with the Dean of Students, M. L. Huit, and will concentrate on particular functions of student life at the University by working with students in those particular areas.General counseling of both men and women students will also be a service provided by the associate deans. Both new and familiar faces may be found in the "new" Office of Student Affairs this fall. Helen Reich, former assistant directer of the office and counselor to sororities, will be associate dean and associate director of the Office of Student Affairs. She will coordinate for the office the University's extensive orientation program for its freshmen each fall, continue to counsel sorority officers and members, and will serve as advisor to Associated Women Students. Roger D. Augustine will be associate dean and director of student activities. Dr. Augustine, who joined the U of I Student Affairs staff last year, will also serve as advisor to the Student Senate, and his office will continue to be located in the Iowa Memorial Union. He and the assistant director of student activities, Mrs. Marcia Whitney, work closely with officers of student organizations and with their activities. Richard Trumpe, who joined the U of I staff in August, will be associate dean for University residences. Besides seeking to strengthen the educational aspects of residence halls living, Dr. Trumpe will be responsible for counseling programs to be carried out under the direction of William Arbes, in the men's residence halls, and Barbara Cochran, in the women's halls. As associate dean for off-campus residences, James Chapman will be especially concerned with off-campus housing, fraternity and sorority counseling and the business affairs of the fraternal groups. Specific programs in these areas will be conducted by Kenneth Cook, director of off-campus housing; David McKinney, counselor to fraternities and manager of the fraternity business service; and Miss Reich, in her capacity of counselor to sororities. Two other staff members, Carolyn Beaty and Donald Niemeier, will assist Mr. Cook in the off-campus housing program. Wallace W. Maner will continue to serve as counselor to foreign students and director of the U of I International Center, which responsibilities he has held since 1952. Mrs. Maner serves as associate director of the Center. (Continued on page 2)
