By Ernest Rodriguez I would like to call upon a very good friend of mine who himself is an educator. He is a professor of political science at the University of Iowa and can draw on some personal experience in the political arena, because he is a former congressman from the first district of Iowa. he has always accepted any invitation Mexican-American organization to their functions and is one of the few knowledgeable people of Mexican-American activity , their problems and needs. It was through him that out main speaker for the evening was recommended to me and therefore I would like to introduce at this time former congressman John Schmidhauser who in turn will introduce our main speaker for the evening. (8th Congress 1965 1966 Elementary Educaters Bill) You know the Mexican people are very well known for the courtesy and hospitality and this is one of the most impressive things about anyone's first visit to Mexico. It is said that it is part of our Aztec tradition to be very courteous and civil in our personal relations . According to one spanish historian the Aztec inclination to please was responsible for many mass conversions of these Indians of the Christianity. There is a story about the period of the conquest of Mexico that demonstrates this particular trait of character of our ancestors. It seems an Indian went to confess to a Spanish friar and the good friar asked the Indian quite pointedly, "How many gods there are." The Indians replied two
