near the suture, posterior band, somewhat lunate, terminal. Abdomen, tergum greenish blue, segment brownish or pale at tip; venter blue with a purple shade; tail and sinus of the male purple." Say Trans. Am. Philos. Soc. 1. 1818. p. 409. C. vulgaris Say. can be distinguished from the preceeding, C. gernosa Dej. by the long, oblique humeral lunule. Length 13-17 mm.
