3 civil life. A tenor sang an aria superbly. Then a pianist played some very intricate French thing so well that all of the French officers jumped out of their seats and shouted "Bravo-bravo!" at the end. And then the full orchestra played several charming selections. It was good of you, my beloved, to put the "punch" in your prayers while your hubby was dodging the subs. Perhaps that helped - who can say? The other day a correspondent asked an American who has fought in the famous Foreign Legion all through the war what was the secret of his escape from the casualties that have hit the Legion so heavily. "I have a wife back home who prays for me every night," he replied. It is sweet anyway to have someone back there with that devotion that causes her to say her prayers with "unwonted fervor"
